Dear music lovers,
MIC is organising our very first ‘Jazz Under The Stars’ community event! This is a first-ever, ‘pop-up’ initiative to bring improvisational music and jazz to the community and office crowds. We invite you to chill out to some free live music on a Friday evening with us! Here are the details:
Date: 9th Jan, 2015 (Friday)
Venue: Ubi One Building, 81 Ubi Ave 4, #1105 (Rooftop Garden), Singapore 408830
Time: 730pm till around 10pm.
What is this event about?
It is about bringing improvisational music and jazz to the community to where the office crowds are, involving the community in the process. Besides featuring live jazz, everyone is invited to play, sing, jam along with us with our anchor band! ‘Jazz Under The Stars’ is a geographical extension of what MIC does at the library@esplanade!
Isn’t this for the ‘pros’?
In the spirit of MIC, our aim is always about getting beginning musicians, novice singers, etc. to just play and enjoy some music in a non-threatening and nurturing environment. Sometimes getting out there to just play or sing can be quite unnerving for many, but this is exactly why we are here – to encourage you and to help you along the way! So if you are not a ‘pro’, this event is designed primarily for you!
I love to sing, but I am definitely not a ‘pro’. Is it ok for me to come forward and sing?
Definitely! As we have mentioned, we exist for you!
Will there be featured music?
Our anchor band, the Inner Vibe Trio, will present chill-out jazz tunes for you to relax and enjoy – in between, we will give ample air-time to anyone who wants to jam with us, either as singer or instrumentalist.
Where’s the venue?
‘Ubi One’ is the name of a modern, light industrial building situated along Ubi Ave 4. The nearest MRT is Tai Seng. There is ample parking within the premises either on the ground floor or in the multi-storey carpark. The event is held at the rooftop garden at the highest floor, #11-5. See attached photo.
Will there be similar events like this in the future?
As this is a ‘pop-up’ initiative, we want to gauge the community’s response. So in order to keep this idea alive, we need the help from you, the community – to support this event! – If you want to sign up as a music jammer, just log on to http://www.mic.sg so we can prepare for you. On the other hand, if you just want to turn up to support, you don’t need to do anything – just turn up on that evening! We want to see a culture of different people coming together to have fun with music, to chill and relax and to participate in music in a non-threatening and nurturing environment! 🙂
